A Special Portrait - Sir David Attenborough
This custom portrait of Sir David Attenborough is a true passion project. Capturing the likeness of such a legendary figure was an absolute joy and a privilege. Using a close-up image as the reference, I worked to bring every intricate detail of Sir David’s face to life. The portrait reflects not just his appearance, but the wisdom and character he embodies. This photo-realistic art drawing is not just a portrait; it’s a tribute to a man who has inspired so many of us.
Artistic Process
Creating this bespoke artwork was a rewarding challenge. The skin texture, especially with the natural unevenness of age, was one of the most captivating aspects to work on. Using high contrast and highlighting the fine details, I focused on the folds and texture of Sir David's skin, embracing the unique beauty of the elderly features. The dark black background, created with graphite powder and cotton wool, serves to draw the focus entirely onto his face, making the portrait feel intimate and powerful. Every line and shadow was carefully crafted over more than 60 hours to ensure the final result was as lifelike as possible.

Favourite Details
One of my favourite aspects of this personalised portrait was capturing the skin texture. The contrasts in Sir David's face were so interesting to draw, especially in areas where the natural creases and folds formed with age. The detail in his eyes, reflecting years of knowledge and experience, added depth and life to the portrait. It was these small, beautiful details that made the entire process so enjoyable.
