A Wedding Gift from the Mountains - Ben & Emily

Ben and Emily’s breathtaking wedding gift was a moment frozen in time from the mountains where Ben proposed. The serene beauty of their engagement scene, captured in a self-portrait, became the perfect way to preserve such a meaningful chapter in their lives. It was an absolute joy to create this vibrant and heartfelt piece, bringing their adventure and love to life in every tiny detail.

Artistic Process

The image, taken at the very spot where Ben proposed, was a special moment to recreate as a custom wedding portrait. I paid close attention to the details—the texture of their hats, the soft snow, and the champagne bottle—each element contributed to the scene's story. Every part of the process was focused on making sure the memory was captured just right.

Materials Used

This portrait was crafted with:

  • Graphite pencils, including Faber-Castell Pitt Graphite Matte for rich, smooth tones.

  • Arches 300gsm hot press paper, chosen for its smooth, high-quality surface.

  • Dimensions: A4 (21 x 29.7 cm).

Features detailed textures, from the soft snow to the reflective surfaces in the champagne glasses.

Favourite Details

One of the most enjoyable challenges was bringing the reflections in their champagne glasses to life. By carefully layering light and shadow, I was able to create realistic reflections, adding depth and bringing more life to the portrait. Playing with perspective made the piece feel dynamic and even more personal.
